Good old Share is a free WordPress plugin, developed to simplify post sharing on the best social networks.
The plugin inserts buttons above or below the post, enabling you to share it on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Linkedin and other social websites.
Download the plugin from the official WordPress repository:
Description
This plugin shows Facebook, Twitter and other share buttons above or below your posts. Easy customization of active buttons and position in the Settings menu.
Facebook Like and Twitter Share buttons are loaded by default. Other buttons, including Digg, Facebook Share, Flattr, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Bitcoin, Litecoin, Stumbleupon, Youtube, Hyves, Print, Email, RSS, Reddit, Tipy, Tumblr, Buffer, Pinzout, can be added through the Settings->Good old share
menu.
Please be careful when selecting the Show buttons in these pages
options : it can interact badly with other slide/fade/carousel/sidebar active plugins.
If you want to place the active buttons only in selected posts, use the “good_old_share” shortcode.
If you want to hide the share buttons inside selected posts, set the “good_old_share_disable” custom field with value “yes”.

What’s the difference between Facebook Like and Share buttons?
Facebook Like’s behaviour is similar to Facebook Share: it is a counter and if you click it a story is published inside your Wall on Facebook. We suggest you to use Facebook Like because it works better identifying title and text for the story to be published and it’s the only one currently developed by Facebook.
Why users can’t choose which image to share when using Facebook Like button?
This is an automated Facebook behaviour: clicking Facebook Like the user can’t choose each time which image to share, but you can set the right image inside the code using the Open Graph Tag og:image.
When I activate the plugin it messes up with other plugins showing post excerpts in different ways (fade, carousel, sidebar). What can I do?
Uncheck all the “Show buttons in these pages” options in the Settings->Good old Share
menu, except for “Single posts”. This way all the share buttons should disappear, except the one displayed beside the post in every Single post page.
Is it possible to modify the style/css of the buttons?
Yes, every button has its own div class (e.g. “good_old_share_twitter”) for easy customization inside the theme css files. Plus, the div surrounding all buttons has its own class “good_old_share”.

This plugin gives you the features of the former 3.3 release of the Really simple Share plugin by WhileTrue, featuring 1.3 million downloads at that time.
Is there a way to select the image Facebook will display once the content is published on the timeline? When I click any post, it always displays the same image…
Thanks for the great work, I tried not less than 20 plugins, and yours was, by far, the best.
Hi untipofeliz! As stated in the FAQ in this page, you can set the right image for Facebook shares for every post, using an Open Graph plugin.
Hi,
Your Really Simple Share for WordPress is a great plug-in. But my only question is if it is possible to see who has “liked” a page?
Is there a way of going to each “llker’s” Facebook page?
Thanks,
Robert
Hi Robert,
The Facebook APIs does not tell you the users who have liked a particular URL, for privacy reasons. If the given URL is linked to a Facebook Page (e.g. the site home page), you can see the likers directly on Facebook or by adding a Facebook Like Box to your site.
WhileTrue,
Thank you so much for your feedback. I would like to clarify what you said. You mentioned that the only way to see who liked a page on the site is to link the site to Facebook. So I have a couple of questions:
1) How would I link the site to a Facebook page?
2) If the site is linked to a Facebook page, then how would I know who liked a page on the site? Where would it show up on the Facebook page?
Thank you very much for all your help.
Robert
1) You can add the following metadata to your website’s header:
<meta property="fb:app_id" content="[FB App ID]" />
2) In the Insights section of the Facebook page.
Thank you again for your response.
For some reason, the metadata you mentioned did not show up when you posted.
Might you please be able to post it again?
Thanks!!
Robert
<meta property="fb:app_id" content="[FB App ID]" />
Hi,
I was able to get the App ID, but I am not sure where to put it.
You say I should put it “in the Web site’s header.”
Can you tell me which file this is? Is it header.php?
If so, I tried it and it did not work.
Thank you!
Robert
Hi Robert, we decided to implemented it natively. If you update the plugin now (version 2.8 was released yesterday), the AppID can be put in the plugin settings page, in the new field next to the Facebook Like button.
Hi,
Thank you for the reply. Also great update, I added the App ID.
However….I cannot see still who “liked” my page. (I did some test “likes”.)
I went to http://www.facebook.com/insights in hopes that I would see it, but I didn’t. The page is blank.
Perhaps I did not get the proper App ID?
Can you tell me what may be going wrong?
Thank you again,
Robert
I noticed that the Facebook “Like” button has a spot for an “app ID #” next to it.
I have a Facebook business page. As far as I can tell in my settings, there is no “app ID.” How do I get it?
Also, I noticed that Facebook “likes” are showing on my blog, but not on my Facebook page. Is the “app ID” what makes them transfer over and show up?
Hi, in order to get an AppID you have to create a Facebook App; it’s not required to have the buttons work, it just gives you insights about the people who pressed the button. The website and Facebook Page use different counters, if you want to show your Facebook Page counter in your site put the Facebook Page URL in the “fixed sharing url” plugin option; this will overwrite every FB button count.
Not a huge deal but did the counter option on the Pinterest button get taken out or is mine just acting up? I loved that feature but lost it after one of the updates…
The Pinterest counter shows up only if there is at least one share, after some time. Sometimes it’s not loaded correctly, maybe it’s due to some cache issues on the Pinterest’s servers.
For some reason the plugin on our website reads twice on each article. Is there a way to fix that? Here is an example. Any help you could give would be great!
http://www.theclause.org/2013/01/remembering-roe-v-wade/
It seems related to the Author field incorporating the buttons. While we work on this, you can try to go to the plugin Settings page and set the Position option to “only below the posts” so that the button rows won’t be coupled together.
thank you for this plugin
is there a way I can display it in my footer on all pages?
maybe a bit of php to put into the template?
fx
Yes. For example, use this code to create buttons linking to the website home page:
echo really_simple_share_publish(get_bloginfo('url'), get_bloginfo('name'));
Hi this plugin is great however , the pinterest Icon isnt working.
Any suggestions. I’ve selected every other icon/button and they all work except for pinterest.
Thanks
J
The Pinterest icon shows up only if the post thumbnail is set or if there is at least one picture in the post. Are you using images in your posts?
Actually yes and I’m setting the featured image as well.
In fact the “Pin It” is shown, while the button fails to load; this could be caused by your template. You can try to change some plugin settings, including “Load scripts at the bottom of the body” under Advanced Options, and “Use multiple image selector” and “Use old button code” under Pinterest Options.
Hello, starting from this morning I think, on the Facebook Like button is written “share” in english/ “partager” in french. Is there a way I can change this in the code?
Thanks,
Allyce
It’s okay now, thanks 🙂
Hello, I have to do to get the app id?
Thanks!
To do that you have to create a Facebook App representing your website. More info here and here.
Thanks!
Plugin works without putting the app id?
Absolutely yes, it’s optional.
Is there a way to have multiple instances of the buttons on a single page, each sharing a different URL?
Yes, you can call the
really_simple_share_publish('http://www.website.com', 'Website Name')
PHP function multiple times from your template, passing it different links and titles.Hi,
I see you posted my comment from Feb 7 but did not yet reply.
Might you have any ideas as to what might be wrong?
Also, is it possible to contact you over email?
Thank you,
Robert
Hi, first of all, I’d like to thank you guys for sharing this great wp plugin. Been using this for quite a while now.
Actually, I have problem with the latest update. My twitter share button stop counting. BUT! it did successfully syndicated my tweet on my twitter account. Any fix on this?
Thank you!
I forgot to add my link quickseorankings(dot)com/blog/ choose wtv topic then try to click the tw share button, in my end it stop counting, while before it was working great.
hi
today, i just update the plugin, Really simple Facebook Twitter share buttons
Then, the count of pinerest was gone on all my website posts: http://www.parentinginformer.com/photo-tips-for-parents.html#disqus_thread
It was fine before i update the plugin today.
Please kindly advise this issue.
Thanks,
elle
Hi Elle,
the count should come back in some way, I’m trying to understand why. Unfortunately the Pinterest button had to be updated in order to work from now on.
Hello.
After the latest update of of the plugin, when i click on PIN IT button, the sharer opens in the same window. It was opening in a new box a few days back. Can you look into the matter?
Another problem is with Twitter : Add author to follow list: In this option there’s only 1 check box, can’t we write our name in that place so that real Author Account will be followed by our users? At the moment its only following same useraccount of twitter as mentioned in wordpress, so its a bit hard to get maximum benefit from this feature.
Thanks
Hi Shahid, we’re still working on the PinIt button, in some sites the sharer opens in the same window, in other opens in a popup.
As for Twitter, you can enter the Author Account in the “Add user to follow list” setting field; the checkbox options is more useful when you manage a multi-author blog.
Dear sir,
I started a website (www.danioros.com) 2 weeks ago and installed your plugin. I have already lost twice all the Facebook likes and Twitter shares? Is there a problem with the plugin?
Thank you for your answer
There’s no problem with the plugin. Have you changed the site permalink structure recently? Please note that this kind of changes would modify the posts url and reset the button counters.
Thanks a lot for the answer. Do you happen to know if I can modify the permalink and still keep the likes and shares, or at least modify the permalink just for the future posts (and keep the already posted the same)?
If you manage to keep the old permalink for already posted items, the counters should be fine. For future posts, there’s no problem at all.
I have discovered the problem. It seems like I have changed the Permalink settings from “Default” to “Post name” (in WordPress). Is there a way to change it in “Post name” and still keep the likes? Thank you in advance.
Could you enable lazyload for this plugin, in that case I am sure that this plugin will be purely amazing..
Hi King, we’re thinking about doing it without breaking support for shortcodes and direct php functions calls. Do you have suggestions?
A few questions. I’m sure I’m missing something simple. When I first installed and activated your plugin, it automatically showed 25 likes for my page. Any ideas why?
The next question is, why do some of my pages and posts seem to be linked to my “home page” likes?
Thanks!
Hi Karl, the likes are stored by Facebook and count past and future shares. The Like conters are different for each page.
Thank you so much for this great app. It works almost like a charm, just one question though: when I click on the Facebook button to like my page (had to try it out, of course), the page doesn’t appear on my Facebook timeline to tell Facebook friends I liked it. Did I do something wrong and what’s the solution to this? Thanks in advance.
Hi Ann, if you enable the “Use Html5 code instead of iFrame” Facebook Like button option, the user clicking “Like” is prompted to post the link on the Timeline.
Having an issue with Pinterest. It no longer shows the count and has a weird grey box around it. on another site I have, I have version 2.59. I updated it to the new version 2.9.1 and the same thing happened. When I uploaded the old version from a back up the counter worked again…
Site with the problem http://www.mommahealth.com. Site where I went back and forth http://www.wdwcafe.com.
Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks Rich 🙂
I uploaded and old version of the plugin and the counter works again
Hi there,
Firstly, thank you for the really simple share plugin, I’ve been using it on my site…
I have a slight problem though… It doesn’t seem to count any tweets, the tweet counter always reads 0. Can you help?
The site is http://www.Inspiredprimate.co.uk
If you can help me sort it I’ll happily make a donation!
Thanks,
Alex
Hi Alex, the first post on your site counts (to me) 3 tweets; your second post had 0 tweets, I tweeted it, now it shows 1 tweet so I guess everything is fine.
Please consider that the counter are cached, so you’ll continue to see 0 tweets for some hours if you already loaded the website before; to see the actual counters wait some time or load your site with another browser.
I don’t know what I may be doing wrong but my fb like button when clicked does not show the share window.
Am I missing a setting?
Thank you,
Chris
Hi Chris, if you enable the “Use Html5 code instead of iFrame” Facebook Like button option, the user clicking “Like” is prompted to post the link on the Timeline.
Hi,
Thanks for a great plugin.
How do I align CENTER for the buttons of Really simple Facebook and Twitter share?
Currently the buttons are left aligned.
Tried searching the web but can’t find.. Guess the creator may be able to help?
thanks!
Hi, you can center with CSS, them giving their surrounding
.really_simple_share { width: 300px; margin: 0 auto; }
Find the best width (approx 100px for every button) and put the code in your theme “style.css” file.
Hi, Im kind of new to all of this.. Where exactly do I enter this code into on my themes “style.css” file? Can I just paste anywhere in the file?
You can safely append it after the last line.
Hi,
thank you for this great plugin.
I’m using it on several blogs, but on my company website I have a problem. I activated Twitter, Facebook and Google+, but only the facebook button shows up. I thought something is wrong in the CSS, but there is no mistake. When I look at the website with firebug I can see the line in the code, but there is nothing on the site. I’m lost 🙂 Could you help me, please?
Hi Julia. The JS plugin loading code is not loading in your theme, check it out. You may also try to enable the
Load scripts at the bottom of the body
plugin option; in this case, be sure that thewp_footer()
function is loaded in yourfooter.php
theme file. Sorry for the late answer! How do i fix the problem where liking a post to facebook the wrong image comes up? Wierd part about it is that it only happens on some of the posts, where it has pick one of the side bar widgets image for the rest.
Hi Kym, as stated in the FAQ, you can set the right image inside for each post using an Open Graph plugin.
Hi there, Greta plugin thanks. I have them displaying at the top of posts.
I have had to disable the G Plus and Twitter buttons though as I am finding a Huge slow down while waiting for them.
The G Plus button waits for “Google Plus” or similar. The Twitter button is contacting get “r.twiimg” which I believe is tracking cookie of some kind. I know I can block this here but I don’t want to ask all my users to do that – Plus it is really slowing down the draw of the rest of the page.
I have tried HTML 5 and normal version – Same. Big delay before page draws.
Any ideas? Thank you. 🙂
Hey there, WhileTrue. I absolutely love this plugin you’ve Authored.
Is there a way to add a Print button within the Plugin?
For example, I have LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+ and Email showing, and I would love to have Print right after the Email option.
Please let me know.
Thank you.
Hi Christina, the print button is now available in the 2.10 plugin release. Sorry for the late answer!
I use this plug-in on my personal blog (address above) and today, all of our previous Facebook ‘likes’ disappeared from the posts. Any ideas on why this happened or how to correct?
Thank you.
How can I have all the share links point to the home page and not the individual post/page? I’m a php novice so any help would be greatly appreciated! Love the plug in!
jamie
I am trying to add a horizontal rule under the buttons, just to give it some visual separation from the article text.
I tried adding to the bottom of “really-simple-share/style.css” but it makes no difference (That page is marked inactive – even though “Disable default styles:” in the settings in unchecked).
Any suggestions greatly appreciated 🙂
Hi, you can try to add to your template style.css file a rule like that:
.really_simple_share { border-bottom: 1px solid gray; padding-bottom: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; }
Can I please get you to clarify the correct format.
For centering post above you had underscores…
.really_simple_share { width: 300px; margin: 0 auto; }
For this answer you have dashes…
.really-simple-share { border-bottom: 1px solid gray;…
Im having troubles getting it to work and figured this a good starting point.
THANKS for your help 🙂
Oops … sorry, the correct syntax is with underscores; I’ve corrected my previous statement. Thanks for noticing it!
I am thank you for sharing this simple and beautiful plugin. I will be use this on my site Pakistani Models
Hi!
Thanks for a great plugin – which I have been using a lot.
I updated the plugin today – and after that it started to make a lot of space after the share butttons.
I tried a few things, that I could read about in the support threads – but haven’t got any luck for fix it.
Please can you help me – removing the “empty” space after ? 🙂
Regards
Lars M.
Hi Lars, the Facebook button is causing it. You can solve enabling the “html5” mode for it in the plugin settings or putting the following code in your template style.css file:
.really_simple_share iframe { height: 25px; }
There you go – probably the only thing I didn’t try, lol 🙂
Thank you!
Lars
Awesome plugin! Thanks. I’m having trouble locating the “Use Html5 code instead of iFrame” option so that a user clicking “Like” is prompted to post the link on their Timeline. Is it in the plugin settings?
Using version 2.6.1
nevermind. updated my version and there it is.
Hello. I just upgraded to version 2.9.3, on WordPress 3.5.1 and all of the Facebook Like counters have completely disappeared, leaving just a blank spot between the “Like” and “Tweet” buttons. The Tweet counter is still working. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks much.
Mike
Hi Mike, I can’t guess the issue without giving a look at the website. Anyway, you can try solve enabling the Facebook “html5″ mode in the plugin settings.
I switched the config over to “Use Html5 code instead of iFrame:” which brought back the Like Counter, but now when the Like button is clicked, the “add a comment” dialog is only 30 or so px high–with no submit visible. Any suggestions?
Thanks muc.
website?
This should be here. The site is live.ift.org – click any category in the menu bar.
My apologies.
Hi Mike, you could solve by commenting the following rule on your template style.css file (line 537):
#category-page .really_simple_share .really_simple_share_facebook_like iframe {
height: 23px !important;
width: 80px !important;
}
Much appreciated! Thank you.
Hello, Thank you for this really useful plugin.
One small question – is it possible to disable overall for custom post types without using the custom field?
Many thanks for your thoughts
Christian
Hi Christian, it’s not possible at the moment, but we’ll consider this feature for the next plugin major updates.
Hi Christian, the feature is now available since the 3.2 plugin release.
Hi, please,
i use this plugin, bat i need use shortcode of this plugin to my side . Can you help me? Write me plese the shortcode of this best plugin. Thank you. Tom
Hi – Is there a way to control the priority – where this appears on the post page? For example, I want it to appear just below the author box on my posts, so it would be the second item that would appear after the post content on each post page.
Hi Tracey, at the moment you have only a few choices: before or after the content, or in both positions; you can try it in the plugin settings page. We’ll consider adding more options in future releases.
I downloaded your plugin and all the buttons work except the pin button.
When I click on it to post a pin from the site the picture cannot be found.
To give you some more information I use the chrome browser and it has a pin extension
installed on it so when I go to a website I can pin from that website.
When I use that extension on chrome and press pin the pictures are found.
Can you help me out.
Thanks
Jeffrey
Hi Jeffrey, the PinIt code was improved a lot in the new plugin release, please check it out.
Hi there,
Thanks for the plugin. It works fine below all of the posts on the home page, however it does not show up when you go into the actual post. I’ve selected the option to show widget on all pages.
What else do I need to do?
Hi Sabrina, it’s a strange and probably theme related issue. Tell me your website url and I’ll try to help 🙂
do you plan to add app.net to your plugin? Would be nice
Hi Charly, how do you expect it to be applied to the plugin?
share buttons are not published on all posts except the posts which i publish through admin panel ?
plz help………
i want to put social share buttons below my all posts if i use really_simple_share_publish(get_bloginfo(‘url’), get_bloginfo(‘name’)); so where should i use this function and what url should be passed…………???????
I am running WP 3.5.1 and a child theme of 2012. When I am signed in to facebook, clicking like makes the pop-up div appear behind another div in Chrome and Firefox.
Please fix!
Hi Josh, the issue seems related to your actual theme. Can you tell me your site url to have a closer look?
i’ve got this installed but a friend clicked like and nothing turned up on her wall? any thoughts?
thanks
mark
just to say about this issue that it appears to be happening only in chrome
Hi Mark, if (and only if) you enable the “Use Html5 code instead of iFrame” Facebook Like button option, the user clicking “Like” should be prompted to post the link on the Timeline; in each case there’s no automatic publishing.
I am testing your plugin on the redesign for my client’s site and the email this link does not seem to be working. I have linked the page in the website field here. Is this a bug or is there a specific WP plugin I have to install to enable this feature?
Hi Mark, the Email button is a “mailto:” link, so it opens the new message window of the user’s email client. In some cases, e.g. when the website visitor hasn’t a default email client on his device, it could stop working.
Okay, makes sense. Must be my browser. Other sites, I am able to click on it and my gmail pops up but I am not sure gmail is a true default client. Thanks for explaining. Terrific plugin.
Grazie e scusa.
Hello,
great plugin, I’ve just updated it on a client site and the facebook share button has disappeared? In the admin settings there is a checked checkbox with no name next to it under the facebook like checkbox, I think this is what was the share link but there’s no label on the checkbox and no share link showing on the front end?
Facebook like button is not working. please tell me any solution
Hi Tariq, your site has worse problems than it, it gets spam blocked with every browser. Please fix it and do good 🙂
Hi there. Great plug-in. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Does this plug-in use third-party cookies, and therefore does it need a warning for users?
My very limited understanding of the cookie law in the EU is that most cookies, used to operate a site, do not need pop-ups/warnings, but that you should warn people when you oblige them to share their data with third parties, e.g. advertisers, Google, Facebook.
Thanks.
Emily
Hi Emily,
we’re working on a EU Cookie law update, in the meantime you can use a specialized WP plugin doing this.
These plugin make our blog load faster.
Dear All!
I use your plugon for my main page of my site, anf for my portfolio videos what embed from vimeo. My problem is when I click to the share button ony my home page Facebook can show the thumbnail of the page, but when I share on of my videos page, there is no any thumbnail picture in Facebook.Only the title of the link and the link itself. Do you have any solution?
Thanks for your help!
Hi Roland, this is currently out of the scope of this plugin. You can fix the Facebook thumbnails using an Open Graph dedicated plugin.
Love it! wish I could have a really simple way to put Really simple Facebook Twitter share buttons for WordPress in Footer…. or even a not so simple
hi guys?how to fix facebook share button which not showing thumnail when share link?
Hi Rian, you have to set the right image to share using the Open Graph Tag og:image, some plugins can do it for you.
Hi, are you still developing this? When I press on Settings, I just get an empty page. Everything else works. I know it worked before. I am on the same version of WP as before (3.5). Any ideas what to check or what to try? Thanks!
Hi Silviu, are you sure everything else inside the site is fine? Try to uninstall/reinstall the plugin.
Definitely sure, all working. tried deleting the plugin but still got same problem after reinstal. Cannot access settings, I am just getting a blank page. Not sure what else to try. I am using just a very few plugins, no caching, so should be no problems.
Hi, new plugin release is out, try to update.
It started working after I upgraded to WP3.6 (I was on 3.51). I didn’t had to do anything else, just upgraded WP and worked.
Hi I’m a fan of your plugin…I’ve installed it, but there are some social network that don’t exist such as Facebook like, Twitter, Google + and also stumbleupon…
I need your help
Thanks
Hi, I tested the last releases on different sites, sometimes the options get corrupted after several plugin updates. To provide a standard solution I put a new “Reset to Default values” button on the 2.13 release out today. If your options pane is messed up with recent updates, use the Reset button (on the lowest right of the plugin settings page) to give the plugin a fresh start. Please take a note of your plugin configuration before resetting the options, or remember the data you want to put back in.
Hi WhileTrue
Now it works great on my site, Thanks so much for the help…this is very fantastic 😀
Hi Guys,
Anyone the me new juicy link building ways and not my facebook and twitter sharing button working on my blog.
Its really awsome without any difficulties, Thanks.
I love this plug in but it is behaving differently on two WP sites. On one it is not displaying at all and on one it is (both version 2.13), it is activated on both sites and the settings appear to be the same. Another big difference is that on the site it works within there are loads of options in SHARE BUTTONS section bit on the site it doesn’t there are only YouTube, Goofle+ and a blank one?
Hi Keith, you should solve using the Reset button (on the lowest right of the plugin settings page) to give the plugin a fresh start. Please take a note of your plugin configuration before resetting the options, or remember the data you want to put back in.
The Pinterest button doesn’t function properly on the “Image Attachment Page”. Whenever you click on it, the pinterest page pulls up, but no image is recognized for the pin to go through. I saw this mentioned on a few WP forums throughout the web, but no definitive answer. Can you fix this as part of your next update? Thanks!
Awesome share, was looking this for my site.
I would love simple to be even simpler. I would appreciate being able to use a Text-Link only with no icon image of any kind. Is this presently possible?
Hi owen, this isn’t possible at the moment, because we publish external sharing code, provided by every social network.
We’ll think about implementing them natively, but this way the counters would be difficult to retrieve and publish.
Thanks for the reply.
I understand. That makes sense.
I don’t need counters myself just text-link shares. My site is super minimal. 🙂 I did try your service briefly. Much, much better than so many others. Even so the load time slowed things down.
Thanks for considering my suggestion.
Great plug in! I just have one question as a relative novice. How do I go about doing this:
Selective hide
If you want to hide the share buttons inside selected posts, set the “really_simple_share_disable” custom field with value “yes”.
Is there a short code to make this happen or is this edit the only way for it to work?
I’m using Gallery (best web soft) plug in and when I add a gallery to my page the plug in thinks it’s a new post.
Thanks again, this plug in seems to be working fine since install yesterday!
thank you for the plugin. However, it’s only showing up on the explorer browser and not on Firefox or Chrome. Is there something I am missing in the settings?
Hey there,
Been using your plugin for about a year.
I’m having troubles with it since yesterday, the buttons don’t show up AT ALL on my homepage ‘s summaries but are fcorrectly displayed on full articles.
I am also panicking about an other detail… all posts on my website LOST the count of likes and share on twitter… I didn’t edit anything in the native code of the plugin, I only updated it a few days ago.
Is there something new in the settings I need to check to make everything work ?
Thanks a lot !
Hi, did you change your permalink settings recently? If so, try to revert it. For the other issues, try the Reset button (on the lowest right of the plugin settings page) to give the plugin a fresh start.
Hi,
Thanks for your quick response =)
I changed the permalinks on my wp install because I had a problem setting a domain name correctly (I installed my website on a personal server, and then I give the website his own domain)
I also set 301 redirection via .htaccess file, to keep every link pointing to my website working. Don’t you think it can be that change of url that interferred with the plugin ? I personnaly have no clue, but I suspect that…
I try things you said, first restoring the horrible default permalinks provided by wordpress, but the counter stil set 0 on every single article.
I also tried to reset the plugin… but neither did it work.
Hi, every counter is linked to its original url, so I think 301 redirection won’t work. About the summaries, verify that the “Disable buttons on excerpts” option is disabled; if so, probably there’s something to adjust (e.g. changing “the_excerpt” calls with “the_content”) inside your theme files.
Every time I activate the plugin, it aligns the share buttons vertically below my single post’s header. How can I align them horizontally so they are all on the same line?
I think it’a CSS theme issue. Can you PM your site url?
Since updating my wordpress site and your plugin, I notice there is no longer a counter for Facebook. Is there a reason why and can it be implemented?
Hi Rem, please try increasing the “width” value for the FB button inside the plugin Settings page.
If the issue is not solved, please post here or in a PM your site URL for further inspection.
Can you choose to take the share option off of a particular page?
I want it on most of them, but don’t need it on some pages. How can I remove the option on one page at a time?
thanks!
Hi Holly, you can hide the unwanted buttons one at a time with a CSS rule on the page, e.g. for Twitter:
.really_simple_share_twitter { display:none; }
Liking Facebook recently stopped working–nothing happens when clicking on the icon at my blog: http://www.liberalvaluesblog.com
I have tried disabling all other plug ins and widgets and changing to a minimalist theme but it still won’t work. Any suggestion for fixing this?
I found the answer to my question above and thought I’d add it on as it is possible others with the same problem will wind up finding this via Google searches–it gets frustrating to find links to the same question without the solution. I found a WordPress plugin which fixed all the problems: “WP Facebook Open Graph protocol”. Note that it works for new posts but did not fix problems with old posts.
The same happened with the share button on my site after wp updated their software a couple of days ago.
Hi,
Great plugin. But are aware that the no buttons appear on the current version of Chrome (Mac OS)? It works just fine in Safari and Firefox.
Denis
Hi, everything shows fine here, even for your website. Do you have any blocking Chrome extension?
The plugin is working for Chrome (Mac OS). I just installed the plugin and tested it on all browsers on my MAC computer.
I’ve been using your plugin for a long time and have been very happy with it! I just turned on the pin it hover image button, and I was wondering if you could make it pull from the alt text for the description and then if nothing is there, pull the title? As you know, currently it pulls the title. I have been adding alt text descriptions on all my images and would love to take advantage of that with the pin it hover button feature. (The browser extension pin it plugins do pull the alt text and it’s becoming standard practice for bloggers to use alt text for pinning.) Thanks for considering! I’m leaving a donation now for a great plugin. 🙂
Hi Wardee, thanks a lot for your support. Pinterest Alt text sharing is being developed (it was requested some time ago by other users) and should be coming in the next plugin updates. Cheers!
Thanks so much! 🙂
May I Can choose to take the share option off of a particular page? I want it on most of them, but don’t need it on some pages. How can I remove the option on one page at a time?
Hi Mania, if you want to hide the share buttons inside selected posts/page, set a “really_simple_share_disable” custom field with value “yes”. For other post formats, you can hide them via CSS.
Ciao,
Really love this plug in thanks guys!
I seem to be having an issue with spacing, I’ve added the Facebook, G+ & Twitter buttons to my blog posts, they show up fine but there is a big empty space underneath the buttons before the comments box.
any ideas?
Hi Carl, it seems a theme CSS issue, you should solve setting a max height for share iframes like this:
.really_simple_share iframe { max-height: 25px; }
That’s great.
Thank you so much for the quick reply, solved my issue! 🙂
Hi there,
sorry to bother you again!
since the update for the plugin (which i believe came out today) the Google +1 button will not show. It’s enabled and i havent changed the settings but it wont show up.. any ideas?
Sorry, It’s magically re-appeared!
Believe Google was down temporarily which may have been the cause 🙂
Hi Mate,
Firstly Great Plugin! :)!
However, I’m getting a strange problem. The contents of the 2 settings pages (simple share & simple counts) have gone blank! The counts still appear on my blog but I cant make any changes anymore and there is no more code appearing in the editor. I have tried deleting the plugin and reinstalling but no joy, the pages are still blank and what I find strange is that even though it has been deleted, it remembers all of the social media details and I don’t have to type it in again after reinstalling. Do you know how to sort this out? Get the settings back? I want to add Pin it under my posts but can no longer see the settings….Any help is much appreciated!
Hi Jason, unfortunately I’ve no clue to figure it out. Probably some php errors somewhere in the site are blocking it. You can display some error data by appending (temporarily) this line to the plugin really-simple-share-options.php file:
error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set('display_errors','1');
I’ve activated the plugin on my gf’s blog. After sharing the page with fb (which shared just fine) the counter had incremented to 1. Now it’s at 0, and someone else that I know also shared it. Using the fb like button doesn’t seem to increment the counter either. All “show counter” radio buttons are selected on the settings page. Is there some configuration that I’ve missed? Where exactly does it store these values and how can I fix this?
Please ignore the last post. In the plugin dir the plugin name wasn’t quite right. I’ve fixed it and the counter from “share” seems to be updating. Sorry for confusion.
I’ve been using your plugin for a long time and have been very happy with it! I just turned on the pin it hover image and I was wondering if you could make it pull from the alt text for the description and then if nothing is there, pull the title from http://fashionparo.com and http://fashionafashion.com
Hi Kamran, the new 3.0.1 plugin release adds the feature you requested. Please note that only the bar button has been updated; the image hover button stays the same, because its behaviour is decided by the Pinterest team.
Hi,
Awesome plugin.
Works great. However I am wondering how to get the sharing buttons to show in the excerpts on a category page. I tried inserting the shortcode but could not get that to work.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi Jim, you can try to add the plugin php function within the category.php theme file.
I want to put facebook and google plus like button on
1 > home page
2 > categories
how can I ?
As I can see these works for post only not for homepage and category
Hi, go to the Settings->”Really simple share” page and set your preferences in the “Show buttons in these pages” field.
Hi,
I have some question… Hope you can help me..
1. Could I trace who share the article?
2. The share article on Facebook looks like “You shared a link via Widget Share Log App.” Could I modify Widget Share Log App into another words?
Thanks you very much!
Hi Emily,
Hi. I need your help regarding one problem with this plugin. The counter which is displayed near the like/share buttons resets to 1 after a few days. Yesterday it displayed 8-10 likes, and now it was reset to 1.
Can you help? Thanks!
Hi Dan, did you change the permalink structure? If so, it’s normal because the counters are bound to the URL.
Thanks for sharing the best plugin
I am having a problem with your plugin, when I share an article on my website with Facebook I am getting the title and the link but no graphics whatsoever. Any Idea how to fix this? The absolute best thing about your plugin is you have a choice to share with groups, nice move. Thanks for the help.
JW
Hi John, as stated in the plugin FAQ, the best way to organize FB shared data is to use an Open Graph related plugin.
Thanks While True for your reply, I will try this.
Got it thanks again.
Hi,
For some reason, my facebook icon is shaded a dark grey and I can no longer click it. However, the twitter and google plus icons seems to be working just fine. How can I restore the facebook options?
Hello, I am facing problems with the 1 button + plugin, clicking it does not open the popup but the following page: https://support.google.com/plus/answer/1047397?p=plusone_button_error&rd=2
how to fix this?
sorry, buttom 1+ (g.plus)
How can I get the icons to show up on the home page to apply to the entire site and not individual posts? I can get it to work for individual posts (which I want also but only on their own page). When I select the option for the home page what it does is put the icons with each excerpt of recent posts.
Hi again…. I am sorry to have to trouble you again but I am still struggling with this. I perhaps need to explain to you a little more about what I am doing. I have a WP Facebook button installed on my web pages. This button is used in short code so that it can be entered where I want it to be . I was using it a footer widget. I also installed your Facebook really simple button and selected to use the shows the same counts. This in fact worked alongside the WP Facebook like button as I untucked the options of where to show the button and just selected the option of show same counts. It worked with the existing WP Facebook button and the counts showed the same in the foot widget on every page. Great – this was fantastic…. just what I wanted. The overnight for some bizarre reason that I cannot explain the counters went weird. I removed both the WP Facebook button and the Really Simple one ands re installed. the count cam back as 16 BUT only on one page?? the other pages were 0 counts. I am now at the stage where I have removed the short code from the widget and just left it on one page and removed altogether from other pages. this is so disappointing as I really wanted a counter like button on every page – are you able to give me a short code to use with your counters that I can use in a widget and explain fully how to embed the code so that all counters read the same. I am feeling somewhat desperate now… it is so frustrating when something works well for over a week or more then collapses on you!. Hope you can spare a few minutes to help me . The page I have the count set for is http://www.beaconoflightenfield.co.uk/services. I get the code from Facebook – but perhaps I am selecting the wrong one – should I use XFBML,HTML5,iFrame or URL?
Hi Carol,
Facebook is updating the Share button these days, so its features are shaking a little. Please stay tuned for news.
Hi!
Great Plugin! I like it very much!
Is it possible to add a “Pocket” Button?
Thanks!
Hi, surely I’m doing it in the next releases. Please consider a small donation 🙂
Hello! I’m trying out your plugin on my website (WordPress 3.9.1), and I’m liking it so far – I’m just wondering why the Facebook Like button is not aligned with the others (Facebook Share, g+1, Tweet) but about half a line lower. I have tried ordering the buttons differently, but the Like button is always a bit lower than the others (I just noticed that I have the same problem with the email button). It looks untidy, so I have deactivated these two buttons for the time being. Any ideas?
I updated the plug in today. I unchecked the boxes I don’t want for sharing purposes (I only want Facebook, Twitter, Google+ & Pinterest) and every time I save, it goes back to the default. Now I have a bunch of share options like email and LinkedIn I don’t want on my site.
Hi, it’s a bug, sorry for that. The plugin update fixing it is coming in minutes!
can’t disable unwanted buttons in the new update ? ( 3.1.7 )
Hi, it’s a bug, sorry for that. The plugin update fixing it is coming in minutes!
In Version 3.1.8 every time I go to uncheck a button (Google+) and when I go to save the change it goes to a blank screen and asks if I really want to do this. In the header of the webpage it says action has failed.
So I am unable to make any changes (select/deselect) any button options.
Hello. For some reason when I share my blogs now, the thumbnail pic that comes up is incorrect and is not the pic which represents that particular post. Can you help me?
Hi, as stated multiple times, you can set the right image inside the code using the Open Graph Tag og:image. You can implement it with dedicated WP plugins.
So I’ve got the FB Like button on my page. But I have no idea if the button is actually working? How do I verify that the Like is actually showing up on my friends’ page?
I’ve just installed your plugin, and really like it. I do have one category of posts at the end of which I do NOT want to have any buttons visible. Is there any way to institute this either by adding a code at the end of the post or by excluding the category?
These buttons are really simple for wordpress. I think any wordpress webmaster can use it.
Hey! I really like this plugin and been using it for a while now but I was wondering is there a way I can add the Pinterest button on my site http://www.dailynewscompany.com with this plugin also with the same style as the Facebook and twitter button. That would be helpful.
Great Plugin – Thanks. I have checked the options so that my buttons show at the top of all pages and all posts. Works great.
I have several pages on my site that list all of the posts in a category. (sometimes 2 different categories, one after the other)
Im using theme shortcode to display these category posts.
eg: http://www.exploremeditation.com/meditation-packages/
Im currently getting the like/share buttons at the top of each excerpt. In this case, 14 times on the page. Is there a way around that? It looks like im desparate for likes!
It doesnt show on category pages (I dont have that checked) and i love that display. Just wondered if there is a way to stop it showing on category lists – as in link above.
Thanks.
Hi, you can try to enable the “Disable buttons on excerpts” option.
I have that checked already. My category lists are set to show content down to the tag. (Im not actually using the excert window to display specific content for each post). Any further suggestions? Thanks! Nigel.
sorry – it stripped the code. the tag.
When I activate the plugin, it is showing post excerpts in my sidebar, 10 times copied. I have checked and applied the solution in your FAQ (only show buttons in single posts), but that does not solve it. The plugin has been working fine for many months, but since a couple of weeks I experience this. I had it analyzed by the developer of my theme and their answer was:
“The excerpts and share buttons are outside of all the widgets and the generated tag has a line break in the middle of it, which WordPress changes to and so the browser copes with the invalid syntax. ”
Can you please help finding a solution for this?
The url of my site is: http://www.musicaljournaal.nl
Now I have checked the “disable buttons on excerpts” box and the excerpts are not showing anymore in my sidebar. That appears to have solved it.
Hi!
Great plugin! Like it a lot…but 😉
When I use fixed url in settings the image from the post I share (with FB-button)
dont show up at FB. I need fixed url because I have another domainname locked to
my wp, a domainname I want to show up in FB.
Hi
I have tried your plugin and like it, however, once the plugin is configured, some posts appear repeated many times in the right hand widget column and I cannot find a way to remove it other than to turn the whole plugin off. Frustrating.
Hi
Sorry think I have sorted with the excerpts option.
Thanks
Hi,
I lost all my Facebook likes on my post. However, I can see all the facebook like on my Sociometer in Firefox.
What can i do to have this number (1792!!) on the bottom of my page?
http://www.motardssurlaroute.com/salut-motards/
Thank you
Sylvie
Seems like a great Plugin, I do have one problem in that people cannot select which image to use in Pinterest. I have a new site at http://www.northampton-marketing.uk/internet-advertising/ and it only picks an icon, not one of the information images.
Hope there is an answer?
Regards
Pete
You can solve by enabling the “Always use multiple image selector” plugin advanced option.
How can we display the buttons vertically?
Kind regards.
Hi, just add to your theme style.css file a line like this:
.good_old_share div { float: none; padding-left: 0; min-height: 30px; }
Hi
Running version 3.2.3 on two sites.
The “Print” option is missing from one of the sites. All other options are the same.
The WP site it is missing from was originally running English, whereas the other always was in Danish. Now both are English. Print has been missing all along, but mentioning the language thing because it is the only difference (pretty much) between the two sites.
How to show share bar above the thumbnail and down the title (between title and thumbnail)?
Now it shown down the thumbnail and it is very ugly!
I have problem because my share bar show at bottom of featured image, but must to show between title and featured image. How to do that? How to set this?
Where is defined where in page will be loaded share bar?
Site is http://www.femina.rs and than enter in some text…
This plugin is great as no 3rd party account is needed. I would like each button that appears to have image alt text associated with it. This is an SEO standard. For example, when the FB like button shows, the alt text could be “Like on Facebook”. This helps with SEO and with screen readers. Thanks.
You can solve by enabling the “Always use multiple image selector”
My site is unable to upgrade to PHP 8.0 because I use the Really Simple Facebook share plug in. Can you tell me if you are going to update this so it is compatible or what I can do instead? I am not tech savvy! Thanks
Hi Mary, the new 1.1 release should fix the issue.
